As quickly as he turned on a P.J. Walters fastball, White Sox right fielder Alex Rios recalled his only other grand slam before Wednesday's first-inning shot in a 6-2 victory over the Twins at U.S. Cellular Field.

"A walk-off against Cleveland last year,'' Rios said with a smile.

Indeed, on Sept. 10, 2011, Rios supplied one of the few fond memories of a forgettable season that created the context for one of baseball's best comebacks. Not that Rios relishes reminiscing about 2011, when he hit .227.

Asked if he could have mustered confidence back then to overcome the type of mini-slump he just overcame, Rios snapped, "I really don't want to talk about last year.''
