Before last season, when he saw his sack numbers plummet as he transitioned to outside linebacker in the Indianapolis Colts' new 3-4 scheme, Dwight Freeney joked with reporters about his new position label.

"You don't have to write it," he said. "Just say defensive end."

It makes sense. The three-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler at right defensive end certainly earned his stripes at that position. Now, Freeney is a free agent who has been linked with the Lions.

According to NFL.com, Freeney is interested in joining the Lions, the Denver Broncos or the Miami Dolphins. According to the league's website, Freeney wants more than the $8.5-million base salary the Atlanta Falcons gave Osi Umenyiora on Thursday, and he's willing to wait until after the draft or possibly even into training camp.
