The Clippers said a "major NBA award" will be announced at their training facility at 1:30 p.m. today. And there's no doubt as to what that award is going to be - or who will receive it.
The only mystery existing in the announcement is what Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin will be wearing today, and who the runner-up in the voting was. The Clippers forward will be given the award today, a person familiar with the news told The Associated Press.
Griffin turned in one of the most spectacular rookie seasons in league history, with averages of 22.5 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists as the Clippers went 32-50.
He was also the first rookie to play in the All-Star Game since Yao Ming did so in 2003. Griffin also even won the dunk contest in front of his Staples Center fans with an iconic dunk while flying over a car.
