The wait is over for James Reimer.
“I’m pretty excited” Reimer said Tuesday morning about starting in goal for the Maple Leafs’ tilt against Minnesota later that night.
“No one likes to sit and not play so I’m excited to get back in. Just want to go out and give our guys a chance to win.”
The Leafs will be gunning for their sixth win in their first seven games but got the news during the morning skate that top line forward James Van Riemsdyk is questionable for the Wild game.
“He’s a question mark for the game tonight” Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said of Van Riemsdyk who left the morning skate Tuesday after about 15 minutes of skating.
“We’ll see how he responds to treatment here today and we’ll make our decision based on that for tonight.”
Toronto recalled Marlies captain Trevor Smith as a precaution-fill-in for Van Riemsdyk who missed Monday’s practice with what was called a “maintenance day.”
Reimer returns to the Leafs net after a 10 day absence – he’s missed four games but has learned to keep himself sharp during practices.
