The Reds came to the Winter Meetings in Dallas with the expressed mission of landing a quality starting pitcher. They met with several clubs Sunday and Monday.

"We've been busy," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "We've talked to several clubs. Nothing close. But at least I feel things are moving in the right direction. Hopefully, by the end of the week, we'll have something."

The Reds did open a roster spot by outrighting left-hander Jeremy Horst to Triple-A Louisville. Horst cleared waivers.

"It gives us some roster flexibility," Jocketty said.

The Reds have contacted outfielder Josh Willingham's representatives.
