CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox are engaged in contract talks with free agent left-hander Chris Capuano. Heyman adds that Capuano is apparently willing to consider a swingman/"sixth starter" role with the champion Red Sox.

Capuano, age 35 and a native of Springfield, Mass., is coming off a 2013 season in which he pitched to a 4.26 ERA (84 ERA+) and 3.38 K/BB ratio in 105 2/3 innings for the Dodgers. For his career, Capuano owns an ERA+ of 97 across parts of nine major-league seasons. Of his 238 career games, 209 have been starts.
