It appears Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria tried to return too soon from his partially torn left hamstring.
Longoria, who rejoined the Rays on Tuesday, experienced discomfort in the hamstring during the third inning of Monday's rehab start with Triple-A Durham.
"I thought the smartest thing to do was back it down at that point and just continue to be diligent the way that we have been," Longoria said Tuesday afternoon. "It's not what I wanted. It's still not what I want.
"I don't want to be sitting here kind of shut down right now but it's the smartest thing to do."
Rays Manager Joe Maddon said the team will know in "two or three" days just how much time Longoria will need before the hamstring is completely healed.
