By drafting inside linebacker C.J. Mosley with the 17th pick, the Ravens targeted an aggressive ballhawk and tackler who will have a chance to start immediately.

The choice of Mosley was a mild surprise because two potential starting safeties were still on the board – Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of Alabama, and Calvin Pryor of Louisville. However, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome obviously decided that Mosley was the best fit for the Ravens. Newsome went to Alabama and has close ties to the program.

The Ravens chose another linebacker, Arthur Brown, in the second round last year. However, Brown did not have much of an impact last season, playing primarily in passing situations.
