Backup point guard John Lucas III and the Toronto Raptors have parted ways.

Lucas, a 30-year-old, five-year veteran, was under contract for next year, but the Raptors decided not to pick up the option on his contract.

Lucas said his farewell to his 41,000 Twitter followers on Friday morning: “Toronto appreciate all the love and the yr will never forget it. I’m gonna miss the city, but I’m excited for what is next.”
Raptors spokesman Jim LaBumbard told the Star that the Raptors had to make a decision on Lucas by June 30, based on terms of his NBA contract.

Lucas is now a free agent.
