Texas Rangers left-hander Martin Perez, a leading candidate to be the fifth starter, will miss more than four weeks because of a fractured ulna bone in the left forearm.
Perez was hit by a liner from Seattle's Brad Miller in the sixth inning of Sunday's game. Perez crumpled to the ground in pain. He was helped to the clubhouse and taken for X-rays.
Perez will not be able to throw about about four weeks, the club said. He likely will need several weeks of rehabilitation work before being ready for games.
