In his 1,853rd major league game, Ichiro Suzuki made his first regular-season appearance in left field. And he did so flawlessly, even timing his jump for a leaping catch at the fence – robbing Baltimore's Mark Reynolds of an extra- base hit in Wednesday's 12-3 Yankees win.
During trade negotiations for Suzuki, general manager Brian Cashman wanted to be certain that the veteran right fielder was comfortable switching positions before asking Suzuki to waive his no-trade clause.
"He deserved that type of honest dialogue," Cashman said.
