Two years seem like 2,000 for Ryan Cook and Sean Doolittle.

In that span, Cook went from starter to closer to setup man, while Doolittle's transformation was far more extreme: minor-league first baseman to major-league setup man.

Together, they evolved into a dynamic right-left punch setting up A's closer Grant Balfour.

"We found our niche," Doolittle said.

What did they do to celebrate their development the past two years?

Doolittle and Cook along with fellow reliever Jerry Blevins visited Belize and the Maya ruins of Lamanai in early January. The Central American journey was a humbling experience for the big-leaguers, who three months earlier were in the AL Division Series after helping the A's win the West
