The Phillies on Friday placed rookie starting pitcher Jonathan Pettibone on the 15-day DL with a right shoulder strain and officially called up right-hander Ethan Martin to take his place on the active roster. Martin makes his major-league debut in the series opener against the Braves.

In a separate move the Phils designated reliever J.C. Ramirez for assignment and selected the contract of 31-year-old righty Zach Miner.

Miner was 5-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 27 appearances (12 starts) at Lehigh Valley. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2009 his fourth year with the Tigers. In 157 major-league appearances (35 starts) he’s 25-20 with a 4.24 ERA 5.5 strikeouts per nine and 3.7 walks. He is expected to come out of the bullpen.
