Rookie winger Jayson Megan scored his first NHL goal and defenseman Brooks Orpik had a career-high three assists to lead the Penguins to a 3-1 victory against Carolina at PNC Arena tonight.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Penguins (8-4).

They played much of the game without right winger Chuck Kobasew, who adjourned to the locker room after absorbing a hard hit from Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason about eight minutes into the opening period.

There was no immediate word on the nature or severity of Kobasew’s injury.

Tanner Glass put the Penguins in front, 1-0, at 8:25 of the opening period, when he punched in a Megna rebound from the inner edge of the left circle for his second goal of the season.

Megna’s assist was his first point in the NHL. Orpik got the first of his assists.

The Penguins had control of the game and an 11-2 edge in shots when center Brandon Sutter was penalized for tripping at 14:15. Right winger was penalized for slashing at 15:32 and Carolina capitalized on the two-man advantage to tie the game.
