Two days before the Red Sox' schedule reaches its merciful end, Dustin Pedroia's season is finished.

An X-ray taken at Yankee Stadium before last night's 10-2 loss revealed that Pedroia suffered an avulsion fracture of his left ring finger, a team source confirmed. Pedroia didn't play last night and won't risk further damage to his finger by playing tonight or tomorrow night.

Pedroia was unavailable for comment after last night's game. Before the game, he tried to play coy about his injury. Asked what was wrong, he said, "A lot of things," then walked away. Likewise, manager Bobby Valentine offered few details before the game, saying only that Pedroia was "ailing" after "hurting himself" during the weekend in Baltimore.
