While it might not have surprised his NHL colleagues, being picked first in Thursday night's All-Star draft shocked Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk.

"I'm surprised, really surprised," Datsyuk told Red Wings TV. "Of course I'm happy. My legs a bit shaky, but it's ... I'm so happy."

Datsyuk got another surprise when he joined team captain Zdeno Chara on stage and was embraced by the hulking Bruins defenseman.

"More a big hug than big hit on the ice," Datsyuk told Red Wings TV.

So who's the best player at the All-Star Game?

Of the 42 All-Star players in attendance, the consensus top pick leans toward Datsyuk.

"His talent is probably as good as anybody's," said Chara, the Boston Bruins defenseman who selected Datsyuk first overall in the All-Star draft a day earlier.
