Think it through. The Devils must make Zach Parise captain.

The sole argument against his coronation is that he is on a one-year contract and might leave, making him a one-year captain. So what?

If he stays, the Devils next year must strip whoever was chosen of the captaincy to give it to Parise -- risking more hurt feelings for an important player, whoever he is, or else deprive of Parise of the "C" permanently. Next fall, it won't matter who was captain this season.
