The NFL fined Carolina Panthers running back Armond Smith $15000 for the kick that led to his ejection from an Aug. 22 preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The kick happened as Smith who played in four games for the Panthers last season stood up after being tackled by Albert McClelland on a running play in the fourth quarter. Smith's right foot struck McClelland between the legs as he lay on the ground.

In other news from the third full week of preseason games Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Ben Bass was fined $15750 for a horse-collar tackle and Panthers safety Mike Mitchell was fined $10000 for unnecessary roughness.
