The Padres released veteran pitcher Freddy Garcia on Sunday.

Garcia, 36, was in camp on a Minor League contract. He was 1-4 with an 8.71 ERA in six appearances over 20 2/3 innings for the Padres this spring. In his last start for San Diego, the right-hander allowed three home runs in five innings in Saturday's loss to the Rockies.

Garcia has amassed a 152-101 career record and a 4.15 ERA in parts of 14 seasons with the Mariners, White Sox, Yankees, Phillies and Tigers.

Had he made the Padres' 25-man Opening Day roster, Garcia would have earned $1.3 million. He could have earned another $1.25 million in incentives.
