The Padres and starting pitcher Freddy Garcia have agreed to a minor-league deal, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick and confirmed by CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman.
Crasnick adds that Garcia will be given the chance to compete for a roster spot, and that the Pirates also had interest in the 36-year-old right-hander.
