When the 2014 season opens for the San Diego Padres, they’ll likely be without starting catcher Yasmani Grandal.

The young talent, who was suspended fifty games due to the Biogenesis scandal suffered a torn ACL in August. Despite that, the backstop suggested he’d be ready for the start of Spring Training – a pretty bold prediction considering February was no more than six months away from the time he suffered the injury and ACL tears are known to often extend deeper than a six-month time frame.

Whether or not Grandal remains as positive about that return date is unknown, but the San Diego Union-Tribune does not believe Grandal will be ready for Opening Day:
