Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones said on Twitter today he has been arrested following an incident at a Cincinnati bar last week.

Shortly after noon today Jones tweeted: “Just got arrested for protecting myself, I will not let this break me or change what I have work so hard for… .”

Jones told his agent, Peter Schaffer, two intoxicated women approached him and asked to take a photo with him. When he declined, one of the women threw a beer bottle that hit Jones in the head. Jones responded by slapping the woman.

Schaffer told ProFootballTalk that police have not interviewed any witnesses, several of which corroborated Jones’ account of what happened.

“If it was anybody other than Adam Jones, they would have investigated it,” Schaffer said. “If it was anybody other than Adam Jones, they wouldn’t have arrested him.”

In January 2012 Jones plead guilty to a fourth-degree misdemeanor from an incident in July 2011 where he was accused of being disorderly and shouting profanities outside a Cincinnati bar and trying to pull away as officers arrested him.

On probation at the time for a 2007 strip club incident in Las Vegas that left three people wounded, Jones was ordered to serve 75 additional hours of community service.
