The faint chants of "Beat the Heat," "Beat the Heat" from the sellout crowd started to pick up with about 3 minutes to go and the Indiana Pacers leading by 12 points.

Then, with 70 seconds left on the clock, as David West capped his dominating performance with a breakaway dunk, the fans rose to their feet and erupted with another "Beat the Heat" chant on a Friday that felt more like a playoff showdown than a regular-season game.

The Pacers didn't try to sugarcoat it by saying it was just game No. 47 on their schedule. They knew this night was something more.

Yeah, the Pacers beat the Heat a month ago, but to some outsiders not much was made about the win.

They had to do it again.

The Pacers repeated it, and they did it in a convincing manner. They sent a message to the Heat and anybody else who might have questions about the Pacers going toe-to-toe with the defending NBA champions in their 102-89 victory at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
