he Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates waited all offseason for starting pitcher A.J. Burnett to make a decision about his pending retirement.

Eventually, they decided they could no longer wait and decided exploring alternate opportunities.

Ironically enough, just days later – just weeks before starting pitchers and catchers are to report to Spring Training – Burnett decided he would forgo retirement and return for at least another season.

The interest from the Pirates and Orioles has paid off though as they, along with the Philadelphia Phillies, are thought to be the finalists to sign Burnett.

We mentioned last week that the Orioles could be the wild card for Burnett because he lives in Baltimore. And it’s really looking like a Baltimore-Philadelphia-Pittsburgh runoff for his services.
