Mike Woodson is in contention to coach the East All-Stars. The coaches of the teams with the best record in their respective conferences as of Monday morning will earn the spot.

Chicago's Tom Thibodeau and Oklahoma City's Scott Brooks are ineligible because they coached in last year's game.

"It's dangling out there," Woodson said. "If it happens it happens. If not, I'm just going to go and rest, and think basketball and get ready for the final stretch. That's what it's all about."

When told he could be in position to play LeBron James all 48 minutes, Woodson said, "Yeah, I probably would."

The Knicks entered Wednesday night 1½ games behind Miami for the conference lead with games against Milwaukee and Sacramento this weekend.

NO KIDD-ING

Jayson Kidd's recurring back issues sidelined him for Wednesday night's game, but Woodson is optimistic that he will be available for Friday's game against Milwaukee. "I think if he had to play today, he would," Woodson said. "Again, we're being cautious and we're just taking it a day at a time."

Kidd, who missed four games in November due to back soreness, has played a total of 20 minutes in the previous two games. The 39-year-old guard is averaging 28.5 minutes this season. "He's just sore," Woodson said. "He's logged a lot of minutes since Raymond (Felton's) gone down. Now, Raymond's back. We can be a little more cautious I think. If he says he's a little sore, then I've got to be open-minded to that, rest him and welcome him back when he's ready to come back."
