Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp on Tuesday was named captain of the National League's Home Run Derby squad. It's up to Kemp and American League counterpart Robinson Cano to form four-man teams. Kemp told ESPN the first two names that came to mind were teammate Andre Ethier and Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.
"I didn't know he already said who he had in mind," said Stanton, who entered Tuesday's game with a team-leading 13 homers, tied for fourth most in the National League. "Yeah, he's got my number."
Stanton fell short of saying he'd give an automatic yes if asked, but it helps that he wouldn't have to travel cross country to do it. The Marlins close out the first half in St. Louis and theAll-Star Gameis in Kansas City.
