Capitals practice is underway in Arlington but Nicklas Backstrom isn’t among those on the ice for the workout because the center is sick and was told to stay home.
Backstrom skated 22 minutes 6 seconds in Washington’s 5-1 win over the Devils Saturday, and he is the only player who appeared in that victory that is not taking part in practice. Filling in Backstrom’s usual spot centering the second line is Marcus Johansson, who missed the past six games with an upper-body injury.
As for the rest of the Capitals walking wounded: Mike Green is taking part in practice after sitting out the past three games with a groin injury and Brooks Laich (groin) is not on the ice and hasn’t skated with the team since Feb. 16. Jack Hillen, who still has a ways to go in his recovery from an upper-body injury he suffered in the season opener, is taking part in practice.
Here’s what the line combinations look like this morning:
Chimera-Ribeiro-Ovechkin
Fehr-Johansson-Brouwer
Wolski-Perreault-Ward
Hendricks-Beagle-Crabb
