New Texas Rangers batting coach Dave Magadan will work with a small group of hitters in a one-day mini-camp at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Tuesday.
Outfielders Engel Beltre and Leonys Martin, in the field of candidates for the center-field job, will be part of the group. Both spent part of the off-season playing in the Dominican Republic winter league.
The others attending are catcher Jorge Alfaro and infielders Mike Olt and Jurickson Profar. All five players participated in a winter league.
Infielder-outfielder Leury Garcia remained with his team (Aguilas) in the Dominican Republic playoffs.
Garcia has hit a sudden slump. He went 1-for-6 in a 3-2 loss in 11 innings to Escogido and has dropped to .377, second-best in the league for the playoffs. Escogido's Jordany Valdespin, of the New York Mets, leads at .424.
Escogido leads 4-0 in the best-of-nine championship series.
