Justin Morneau's pinch-hit single in the eighth inning gave the Pirates a 3-2 win against the Chicago Cubs Sunday at PNC Park securing a series victory for the Pirates.

Cubs reliever Pedro Strop hit Andrew McCutchen with a pitch and Marlon Byrd singled. Morneau who replaced Gaby Sanchez lined a single to left field to score McCutchen.

The Pirates took three out of four games from the Cubs in the series the first of three series in their final homestand of the season. After losing four in a row the Pirates have won six of their past seven games.

Jose Tabata tripled and scored in the first inning and Tony Sanchez homered in the fourth.

Francisco Liriano took a no-hitter into the seventh inning but exited the game almost immediately after the Cubs broke it up. In six-plus innings he allowed two runs on three hits walking four and striking out four. Liriano received a no-decision not earning the win or taking the loss for the first time this season.
