Monahan mania is spreading.

Midway though the first period of the Flames 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens the nation's favourite golfer weighed in on the Calgary rookie.

“Absolutely loving this Monahan kid!” avid Flames fan Graham DeLaet wrote on Twitter.

Monahan the prized No. 6 pick in this year's NHL draft is giving DeLaet and the Flames faithful plenty to love.

The teen who'll celebrate his 19th birthday on Saturday scored once and added an assist to pace the Flames to their win before the Saddledome sellout crowd of 19289.

The Flames tagged by most every pundit in the hockey world to be at or near the bottom of the NHL standings are 2-0-2 to start the season.

Monahan who must be sent back to junior if he doesn't spend the season with the Flames has played his part in that early-season success having netted at least one point in every game so far.

Just past the nine-minute mark he was on the spot for a loose puck after Habs goalie Carey Price could only get a piece of Lee Stempniak's sharp-angled shot and easily slid it into the net for his third goal of the season.

It also gives Monahan a three-game goal-scoring streak.

He showed his passing abilities before the opening frame was in the books setting up Sven Baertschi for his first goal of the season.

And when Curtis Glencross scored on the powerplay to make it 3-0 it appeared the Flames would continue their home-ice dominance of the Canadiens.
