Monaco and Colombia superstar Radamel Falcao is set to miss this summer's World Cup after suffering a serious knee injury.

The 27-year-old was stretchered off in the French Cup win over fourth-tier Monts Or Azergues last night, and his club today confirmed that he has sustained a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament.

The ex-Porto man will now undergo surgery and will miss the rest of Monaco's title challenge.

The Ligue 1 side's manager, former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, blasted the officials for allowing such a physical approach to be adopted by the minnows and feels that it was responsible for Falcao's injury.

He told the club's official website: "On many occasions, before the injury to Radamel, I drew the attention of the fourth official to the hardness of the game which was beginning to develop and on the danger that it posed to the players.

"I wasn't listened to and that's unfortunately not the first time that we have paid the consequences.
