Giants right-hander Mark Melancon has been selected to bolster the United States' bullpen for Tuesday's World Baseball Classic semifinal against Japan (9 p.m. ET on MLB.TV and MLB Network) at Dodger Stadium.

Teams reaching the third round are allowed to make changes to their pitching staffs, if they so choose, by selecting reinforcements from their designated pool.

Melancon, who converted 47 saves in 51 opportunities for the Pirates and Nationals in 2016, was an obvious choice.

Inside the Giants' clubhouse at Scottsdale Stadium, Melancon spoke as he packed his equipment bag to travel to Los Angeles, the site of the Classic's semifinals and final.
