Before Sunday's 15-point win over Phoenix, the Mavericks were averaging better than 110 points over their previous seven games.
To which, Rick Carlisle asked: "How many are we giving up?"
The answer was way too many for his taste. So the Mavericks went out and did something about it against an opponent that was ripe for a whipping.
The Mavericks jumped on the dead-legged Suns with a sharp first half, building an early 20-point lead. While it got interesting with the Suns creeping within five early in the fourth quarter, the Mavericks pulled away down the stretch.
They did it with defense. Apart from a third-quarter letdown, they were solid on the defensive end throughout and held the Suns to 95 points, including just 42 in the first half when they set the tone.
