Caron Butler and Tyson Chandler began job interviews on Monday and as difficult as it is to swallow, Mavericks fans have to face the painful reality that both players could -- and probably will -- be playing elsewhere this season.
The Mavericks, from what we're hearing, are sticking to their guns in terms of offering only one-year contracts to free agents, either their own or those from other teams.
If the Mavericks are confident that they are major players in the 2012 free-agent derby, this is the right decision.
The only possible exception might be Chandler, who appears to be high on New Jersey's wish list, although not as high as Nene, the bulkier center from Denver. Chandler expects to entertain offers from the Nets, Houston and, perhaps, Golden State.
