It remains highly doubtful that the Boston Red Sox would entertain the notion of trading third baseman Will Middlebrooks, but if they do, the Miami Marlins apparently want in.

Middlebrooks struggled mightily during the 2013 campaign – eventually being demoted to the minor leagues. But the young third baseman rebounded amid trade rumors, though, those whispers still remain.

Despite that, the Marlins would likely have to part with slugger Giancarlo Stanton in exchange for Middlebrooks, a deal that is unlikely to happen according to Nick Cafardo:

Teams ask about Middlebrooks, but the Red Sox haven’t pulled the trigger, feeling Middlebooks has power and they’d hate to lose that. The Marlins have asked a lot about Middlebrooks, but there’s no clear match unless it’s part of a Giancarlo Stanton deal, which isn’t happening.
