Orioles third baseman Manny Machado injured his left knee while beating out a single in the seventh inning Monday. It appeared to be serious.

The Orioles are not giving a specific prognosis on Machado until he has an MRI in Baltimore on Tuesday but the injury will keep him out the remainder of the season.

Machado had an X-Ray at Tropicana Field and Orioles manager Buck Showalter and executive vice president Dan Duquette said the organization will wait for the MRI results before issuing any statement.

He was down for several minutes writhing in pain and had to leave on a stretcher. Machado's knee appeared to buckle as he hit first base and he immediately fell to the ground.

While on the ground he slammed his helmet onto the dirt as the athletic trainers rushed onto the field. His left knee was immobilized.
