Safety Louis Delmas flew to Detroit this morning, at the Lions’ request, for a checkup on his knees, but the soon-to-be free agent said he’s leaving town tonight and still expects to test free agency this weekend.

“If something could get done today, something would have got done two months ago, during the season,” Delmas said. “But other than that, I don’t have no expectations of coming up here and getting a deal done, I’m just coming up here to come back home. I’ve been here eight years, went to college here. I’ve been (with the Lions) four years, so this is definitely home. I’m just coming back to my roots and seeing where I end up next year.”

Delmas, who missed eight games last season after August surgery to relieve tendinitis in his left knee, said the Lions have been trying to line up one final checkup for a week.
