Michael Bourn's long wait is over.

The Indians' center fielder, sidelined since April 15 because of a lacerated right index finger, was activated from the disabled list after Thursday's game. Lefty Scott Barnes returned to Class AAA Columbus.

Bourn is expected to start Friday against the Tigers in Comerica Park.

"I didn't expect to be out this long, but I didn't have a choice," Bourn said. "The finger didn't let me come back quickly. It's always fun to be on the field and be able to play. I've been down for almost three weeks, and I've been itching to get back out there."

The Indians lost their first four games after Bourn was spiked while diving into first base to beat out a grounder against the White Sox. It stretched their losing streak to five. They have gone 13-4 since.

"We have depth throughout our lineup and our pitching staff," Bourn said. "We have guys who can step up when other guys go down."

Bourn played two rehab games in Class AAA Columbus. He is hitting .333 in 10 games with the Indians.
