Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has turned his attention to Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, after missing out on Henrikh Mkitaryan, according to reports from The Metro.

The Reds had made the Armenian international their number one summer target, but were unable to convince him to choose Anfield over a move to Borussia Dortmund.

As a result, the Northern Irishman’s transfer plans have taken a knock, but he is now ready to turn his attention to Shaqiri.

The Swiss winger only signed for Bayern last summer, but has struggled to force his way into the first-team with the likes of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben ahead of him in the pecking order.

With new manager Pep Guardiola likely to impose his own philosophy at the Allianz Arena, Shaqiri’s chances of becoming a regular starter look to slim once again.
