The Lions made headlines for the wrong reasons last offseason and some players have admitted that the number of off-the-field run-ins with the law were a distraction.
That’s why Wednesday’s news that Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested Tuesday in Connecticut should be a bit disheartening to an organization that’s tried to put this type of headline in the rearview mirror.
Spievey was arrested after a domestic dispute over child support (according to the Middletown Press).
Spievey was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct, per the report.
The girlfriend, Lisamarie Santos, was also charged with risk of injury and disorderly conduct for her involvement.
The Lions issued this statement:
“We are aware of the reports involving Amari Spievey. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”
