This move certainly won't grab as many headlines as the ones they made on Wednesday, but the Detroit Lions have agreed to a one-year deal with long snapper Don Muhlbach, according to Tim Twentyman. Muhlbach was one of a few specialists on the roster who became free agents this year, and now he is back in the fold for another season.
Muhlbach returns to the Lions after having a Pro Bowl season in 2012. That's right, he went to the Pro Bowl. Long snappers usually only get attention when they make a mistake, but in Muhlbach's case, he was honored for the stellar season he had snapping the ball for the Lions.
With Muhlbach back under contract, he is set to return for his 10th season with the Lions. He joined the team back in 2004, and he has been the Lions' long snapper ever since.
Now that Muhlbach is re-signed, I wonder if a move involving kicker Jason Hanson will be next. He has made it known that he wants to return for another season, but the Lions still have to work out a new deal with him for that to happen.
