The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to announce Jon Cooper as the franchise's ninth head coach as early as Tuesday.

The news would come two days after general manager Steve Yzerman announced Guy Boucher was fired as coach.

The 45-year-old Cooper is in his third season coaching the Lightning's American Hockey League team, the Syracuse Crunch, who sit first in the Eastern Conference.

Cooper was the AHL's Coach of the Year last season and led the Norfolk Admirals to the Calder Cup. He also won a championship in the United States Hockey League in 2010.
