Third baseman Brett Lawrie began his rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast Jays Saturday afternoon.

But he left after one at-bat — a fly ball to right — in a 4-0 loss to the Yankees' GCL team. Gabriel Cenas took over for Lawrie in the third inning.

Lawrie had been scheduled to join class-A Dunedin and, according to Jays manager John Farrell, "hopefully, meet us in Detroit."
