For all his offence in Tuesday night's 8-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles, it was Brett Lawrie's defensive plays that most impressed manager John Farrell.

"The range he has is incredible, evident by the last pop-up that he caught. He comes in on a slow roller to make a throw across the diamond. I think every night we take the field, you're never going to be really surprised by a play that he might make," Farrell said after the game.

Lawrie came up big with a sliding catch in foul territory during a critical point in the ninth inning, helping his team maintain its lead. With his single in the third inning, the third baseman extended his hit streak to seven games and tied his season high of three RBIs.
