The Blue Jays limped out of Cincinnati beaten and depleted.
And the news doesn’t get any better with Jose Bautista and Brett Lawrie injured and out of the lineup as they open a key three-game series against the New York Yankees at the Rogers Centre.

After Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Reds — one that capped a 3-7 road trip and left the team 4-11 in its last 15 games — the Jays didn’t say anything officially about Lawrie’s broken right index finger or Bautista’s tender left hamstring. Lawrie did.

“Oh yeah, 100 per cent,” Lawrie said when asked if he’s going on the disabled list. “I don’t see me being ready in two days this time.” He’d missed one game after taking two pitches on the left hand earlier in the trip.

Worst-case scenario for Lawrie: out three to six weeks.
