Coming off a career year, Chris Kunitz is on the verge of signing a long-term extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reports the Penguins are close to signing Kunitz to a three-year extension with total value likely to be in the $11-12 million range.

Kunitz posted 22 goals and 52 points in Pittsburgh this season, his fourth full year with the club.

In his eight NHL seasons the 33-year-old 172 goals and 403 points. The Regina native has won two Stanley Cups in his career, one with the Penguins and one with the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-07.
