Left wing Chris Kunitz officially was awarded a fourth goal against the Washington Capitals 24 hours following the game and was also named No. 2 star of the week Monday.
He knows where his bread is buttered.
Kunitz gives much of the credit to his recent offensive outburst to his center, Sidney Crosby.
“I'm fortunate enough to be getting points,” Kunitz said. “It's a tribute to playing with Sid. He's such a dominant player. When the puck is in his hands right now, good things are happening.”
Crosby and Kunitz each were a plus-4 against New Jersey on Saturday. Kunitz then scored four goals against the Capitals, three of which Crosby assisted.
The Penguins are noticing their top line is rounding into form.
“Those guys are all now flying,” right wing Craig Adams said.
Kunitz had a good feeling that the league would award him a fourth goal following the Washington game. Defenseman Paul Martin initially was given credit for the goal.
“We talked about it after,” Kunitz said. “Never in my career have I done that. It's nice. It's better because the team's on a little bit of a role right now.”
