Kris Russell has been one of the most surprising players for the Calgary Flames. After being acquired in the off-season for a fifth-round pick from the St. Louis Blues, he has been a force on the Flames blue line.

In 42 games with the Flames, Russell has amassed four goals and 15 assists for 19 points. Not Earth-shattering totals but in Calgary, that type of production from a defenseman is valued.

To that point, negoatiations have been going on with Russell’s agent Allain Roy. When asked about the ongoing negotiations, Roy had this to say.

“Not quite there yet. Closer.”
Not much there, but the Flames will probably come to terms with him before the season is over. However, they have to be careful. Russell has had this type of season before, in fact twice with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but that was four and five years ago.
