On a night in which the Timberwolves celebrated a "White-Out" with a sellout crowd at Target Center, there was unsettling news before and after the team's 105-102 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Ten minutes before tipoff, Kevin Love was forced to stay in the locker room with back spasms. After the game, the Wolves announced that Ricky Rubio's left knee will need further evaluation today to determine the extent of his injury.
Yahoo Sports, citing a league source, reported that the Wolves fear a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
"Possible ACL," the source briefed on Rubio's condition told Yahoo. "There's a lot of worry now."
Rubio bumped knees with Kobe Bryant with 16.4 seconds left in the fourth quarter while trying to defend the Lakers' star, who was maneuvering for a potential go-ahead basket.
What most of the crowd of 20,164 failed to see was Rubio attempting to walk to the locker room during a timeout but limping back to the bench because the pain was too intense. He needed teammates to assist him to the locker room after Luke Ridnour's desperation three-pointer fell short at the buzzer.
"Tough loss tonight," Rubio wrote on his Twitter page @rickyrubio9 after the game. "I'm gonna do a MRI tomorrow to see how is my knee. Thank you for ur support. I really appreciate it."
"Praying for my teammate," Love wrote on his Twitter page @kevinlove. "Hope all goes well tomorrow with the MRI."
