The baseball season is long — the longest of all — but Pete Mackanin envisioned playing Odubel Herrera in all 162 games. Herrera is his best hitter. The Phillies' margin is so slim, and that is why Herrera started every single one of the team's first 40 games.

Until Wednesday.

Herrera was not in the lineup for Wednesday's 1:05 p.m. game against Miami only because his back hurt. The 24-year-old centerfielder may have injured it when he slammed into the wall Monday night.
